Online Mentorship w/ Mikael Javaid Camua
You can learn concept art and techniques through tutorials, online classes, books, or art school.
This mentorship is different. Most art education teaches you how to do something. I focus on teaching you why.
What I teach are the concepts behind making better art: why one composition works and another doesn’t, how to generate ideas without relying on inspiration, how to get through art block, how to approach creative problems with confidence, what separates a portfolio that gets you hired from one that doesn’t, and the thinking behind the decisions professional artists make every day.
Technique matters, and we’ll absolutely talk about it when it’s needed. But techniques change. Software changes. Workflows change. Strong creative thinking doesn’t.
This mentorship is about developing the judgment, problem solving, and artistic voice that stay with you long after you’ve forgotten which brush someone used.
It’s also about the inner work underneath all of it. Because you can understand every technique in the world and still feel stuck in your art journey if you don’t understand yourself as an artist.

About The Course
Who This Is For
This mentorship is for artists who want more than step by step instruction.
Whether you’re picking up digital art for the first time, refining your portfolio, or already working in the industry, the goal is the same: becoming a stronger creative thinker and building work that feels intentional and uniquely yours.
This mentorship may be for you if:
- You want to understand why something works, not just how to recreate it.
- You struggle to generate ideas or find yourself waiting for inspiration.
- You feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure what to focus on next.
- Your work feels inconsistent or overly influenced by the artists you admire.
- You want honest feedback tailored to your specific goals instead of generic advice.
- You’re building a portfolio and want direction that reflects who you are as an artist.
- You’re interested in the entertainment industry and want insight into how professionals actually think and work.
What You Actually Get
Personalized Mentorship
Every artist has different goals, strengths, and challenges. Your mentorship is built around you, not a fixed curriculum. We’ll focus on what will move your work forward the fastest.
Portfolio Direction
We’ll identify what’s missing, decide what to create next, and make sure every project serves a purpose. Instead of collecting random portfolio pieces, you’ll build a body of work with a clear voice and direction.
Industry Insight
Ask me anything. How studios hire, what art directors look for, how to receive feedback, navigate interviews, communicate your ideas, or simply what it’s actually like working in the industry.
Weekly 1-on-1 Sessions
We’ll meet weekly on a schedule that works for both of us, giving you consistent feedback, accountability, and direction.
Creative Thinking & The Inner Work
Many artists don’t need another tutorial, they need clarity. We’ll work through creative blocks, perfectionism, self doubt, decision making, and the habits that keep artists from reaching their potential.
The Six Concepts/Principles
I’ll teach the six concepts/principles I’ve developed throughout my career that have helped me solve creative problems, improve faster, stay consistent, and grow not just as an artist, but as a person.
Limited seats are available each term so I can give every artist the attention they deserve.
What I Expect From You
- A willingness to learn concepts, not just techniques.
- Time devoted to creating between sessions.
- Openness to honest feedback and challenging conversations.
- Curiosity, consistency, and a genuine desire to grow.
- A commitment to showing up and doing the work.
The mentorship can only take you as far as you’re willing to go. I’ll bring my experience, guidance, and honest feedback. You bring the effort.
