This course will cover story development for feature animation, utilizing storyboarding as our filmmaking basis and skillset. Writing your own script scenes with a clear focus on character development and emotional turning points will begin our process; afterwards in storyboards we will bring your scenes to life by honing in on acting, pacing, and motivated cuts and camera movement. Pitching will also be discussed and exercised in depth, to prepare students for professional work on an animated feature. By the end of the term, students will have created two storyboard sequences based on their own original story ideas.
*Experience with storyboarding is a requirement to take this class. Assignments are intense. Class participation will be strongly encouraged to develop the filmmaker’s voice and confidence as well as simulate an actual feature story room. Prepare to laugh, cry, and begin to discover who you really are as a storyteller.
